This guide is designed as an overview of the SOAPware interface and core concepts. Each section of this guide presents major features and offers guidance. Have fun learning the basics, and feel free to explore. Once comfortable with the basics, move on to learn more advanced functionalities. For now, the beginning...
Start by opening SOAPware. Click Start; Click the Programs (or All Programs) menu item; Click the SOAPware folder; and then Click the SOAPware menu item. SOAPware opens with the User Log-In dialog.

At the start of every SOAPware session, log in to the system with both a user ID and password. For now, sign in will be with a default user. Type SampleNursein the User ID and samplenurse for the Password, and Click LogIn.
if you cannot log in with SampleNurse, the final step of installation was not performed. See This Page to rectify, or obtain an alternative ID and Password from your administrator.

While SOAPware loads, the SOAPware splash screen is displayed:

Once SOAPware fully loads, the Chart workspace is displayed. If this is the first time to log in as Sample Nurse, there may be an additional dialog presented where the Active Provider for SampleNurse is selected.

Many commands in SOAPware are used repeatedly, and it is common to place frequently used commands on toolbars. By default, a common toolbar is placed on the right side of the screen. Multiple toolbars are an option, and they can be placed/docked to any edge of the screen. Also, they can float anywhere desired.

Along the bottom edge of the SOAPware window, notice the tabs.

Point (and/or Click) these tabs to expand them. For example, Point (and/or Click) to the Chart Rack tab.

Simply pointing to/on (or hovering over) these tabs causes their viewers to pop-out, or expand, to a full view. Once a viewer is expanded, Click in the SMARText Quick Access dialog (or somewhere outside of the viewer), and the viewer will slide back, or collapse, back into the tab. The Chart Rack viewer will remain open until a chart is selected. Many of the viewers in SOAPware can be docked to any of the four edges of the Chart workspace. Viewers that are docked can be undocked, so that they can float anywhere.

As noted, tabbed viewers that have expanded after pointing to them will collapse automatically when you move the mouse pointer/cursor off of them. Or, users can define an option so that a click is required to expand the viewer.

Note that their are other options. Click the Drop Down Arrow next to the pin. Click to place a Check next to either Hide, Floating, or Auto Hide.
Hide: The Docked Tab for that View will not display in it's docked position. The User will need to access the View from a menu.
Floating: The Viewer will Float over the SOAPware Chart
Auto Hide: Clicking anywhere outside of the Docked Tab Viewer will cause it to collapse.

Sometimes, it is preferred that the viewer remain in full view even if the mouse is moved to elsewhere. To pin the viewer open, Open Chart Rack, and Click on the small pin icon in the upper right corner of an expanded viewer (see screenshot below, noticing the downward pointing pin). Re-clicking the pin will un-pin, and thus reactivate the viewer's ability to collapse back into the tab.
Un-pin by clicking on the pin. Clicking on the X causes the docked tab to close. Note that the docked tab is not removed from the chart layout. Instead it returns to its original position.

Moving a docked tab to another location is straightforward. With the viewer expanded, as shown above, Click the Pin in the upper right corner of the window to freeze it open (The screen should look similar to the screenshot above). Next, Point to the title bar of the viewer; Press and hold-down the left mouse button, and Drag/move the viewer towards the center of the screen. Once the dragging action is initiated, a number of directional arrows pointing in all directions will automatically display on the screen. Drag to the directional arrow that represents the preferred location for docking. (See the below step-by-step animated screenshot below of this process.)

Additionally, the desire could be to add/remove items to the collection of docked tabs.
To remove an item, Pin-open the viewer, then Click the drop down arrow. Select Hide.

To add a tab to the collection of docked items, Go to the menu bar and Click a Viewer's menu item to open it as a floating viewer; then Click on the viewer's title bar and start the drag process. The docking icons will now display, and simply Drag the dialog to any directional arrow. Finally, Click the Pin to un-pin the viewer so that it can collapse.
SOAPware contains many workspaces dedicated to specific functions such as charting, billing, document importing, security management, chart sharing, scheduling and more. All workspaces are accessible at any time via the SOAPware menu located at the far left of the menu bar.
Take a moment, and move between a few of the workspaces. For example, Click SOAPware in the menu bar, and then Click the Schedule menu item. After selecting Schedule, go back to the menu and Click the Data Explorer menu item. In order to return to the Charts Workspace, Click SOAPware in the menu bar, and then Click the Chart menu item.

Most SOAPware commands are available via several actions:
Buttons exist in the toolbar and within most of the viewers. Beginners tend to prefer to click on menu items or buttons, and later tend to use more key-commands. Key-commands are often, but not always, listed to the right of menu items. For example, Click Help in the menu bar (as in screenshot below), notice F1 is the key-command for SOAPware Help). As an example of a key-command using a comination of keys, the Chart Rack menu item is located under the Chart menu, and has a key-command of Control + Shift + C. This means that while holding-down the Control and Shift keys, pressing the C key will open the Chart Rack viewer.
Note, in some set-ups where SOAPware is operating in a remote desktop, vps, Citrix metaframe, Terminal Services or thin-client situaiton, some of the key-commands may not function.
The Alt key is often used in key-commands. Most menus and menu items include an underlined letter. Pressing the Alt key and the corresponding underlined letter at the same time either opens the menu or activates a menu item. For example, in the Chart workspace, Press Alt + C. This opens the Chart menu, so that pressing k will open the Chart Rack.
Help is in the process of being moved into SOAPedia ( www.soapedia.mysoapware.com ). This is a web-based tool called a wiki that is a living, growing, evolving reference tool. SOAPware also has a few built-in help options accessible via the Help menu. In general, it is best to use the search feature in SOAPedia to find help as the help section in the menu tends to be less up to date.

Style Notes: A style is gradually being implemented in SOAPedia.
Customizations comes later. Almost every aspect of SOAPware can be customized, and every user can have their own settings. To keep this introduction simple, customizations are not discussed. Thus, these introductory sections rely on rather static, generic layouts, and work flows. If you find yourself wishing a window were a different size or in a different place, or wish a medication were formatted differently, or disagree with the order to a particular workflow presented, don't worry because you can make it look and act the way you want. We'll cover how to do this in the Next Steps and other sections of this guide.
