Next Section: Summary Documentation
At the end of patient encounters, prescriptions are often created. Two methods for creating prescriptions will be demonstrated... electronic prescribing and printing of a prescription. Both are performed via the Rx Manager.
Note to v4.x users, prescriptions are no longer printed from the same list as other types of documens. Prescription printing should only be performed in the Rx Manager.
Open the test patient, Timmy Test, created earlier, and open the SOAP Note created in the Visit Documentation section.
Right-click in the Medication field, and Click the Rx Manager menu item (or simply Press the F8 key). Rx Manager presents the prescription items in the Medications field of the current encounter.
Note: For now, don't worry if any pop-up messages display regarding any possible interactions.

In the upper region of Rx Manager is a field for the active pharmacy. This pharmacy can be pre-selected automatically, based on the Preferred Pharmacy entered in the patient's demographic chart section when the patient initially arrived, and the demographic information was entered. It can also be changed at any time.
The main or middle section of the display lists all Structured SMARText Rx medication items from the current SOAP encounter note.
To send the Rx to the pharmacy, Click the eRx button at the bottom of Rx Manager. SOAPware displays a momentary dialog confirming the send process.

That's all it takes to send the Rx electronically.
Printing is even simpler. At the bottom of Rx Manager, Click the Print button.

Sometimes, such as with new prescriptions that are going to be on-going, the preference is for the medications in the Encounter (and thus Rx Manager) to be copied into the patient's Summary Medication list of on-going medications. Rx Manager will update the summary Medications when the user Clicks the Update Summary button for all medications as long as the meds have a check mark in the check box under Include. The default, when opening the Rx Manager, is for each medication to have Include checked.

Click the X on in the top, right corner of the Rx Manager to close.
The Billing Statements section displays previous superbills and allows for the creation of new billing statements. Billing statements can often facilitate direct posting into the practice management system (this requires the SOAPwareXchange enhancement).
NOTE: Specific types of SMARText items of the Structured Dx type must be used in order to directly populate the Billing Statement.
Starting with a Plan field containing a Structured Plan Item type of SMARText item,

in order to create a billing statement, Click the View Billing Statement button.
It is located beneath the lower splitter bar of the current SOAP encounter note, and is above the area of the Document List.
The Billing Statement Chart Section will automatically be displayed, and a new Superbill will be created and populated with the information contained within the current SOAP encounter note.

Click the Post button, and SOAPware sends the billing statement to the practice management system.

Note: When the SOAPware Billing system is released in 2009, this billing information will be directly transferred to the Checkout dialog for charge/payment processing without the need for the SOAPwareXchange enhancement
After creating the billing statement, Click the Print button beneath the lower splitter bar.

The Select Information to Print dialog will display.

Click the Entire Docutainer radio button.
