Updating from one SOAPware v4 to another v4 was similar to jumping off one bicycle and jumping onto another. However, going from v4 to SOAPware 2010 is similar to jumping off a bicycle and into an airplane.

Not following each step referenced in this guide is likely to have the same results as attempting to pilot an aircraft without preparation or training.

SOAPware V4 to 2010 Migration Guide

    • This is not a simple upgrade. It is a completely new product with a different database. Otherwise, SOAPware 2010 has a lot of similarities with SOAPware v4.
    • Before converting from v4 to SOAPware 2010, planning and practice are important.
    • SOAPware 2010 appears to be much easier for new users than for v4 users.

You MUST register for SOAPware 2010 before upgrading to it. If you haven't registered, please click here to register.

    Details:

SOAPware 2010 is far more advanced than v4. it will not be wise to casually move into using it in the same fashion that earlier SOAPware systems were implemented. Attempting to do so can result in avoidable frustration and a system far less than adequate to meet future needs.

It is easier to go from paper to SOAPware 2010 than to go from v4 to SW 2010.

We continue to discourage conversions from v4 until sites have had adequate preparation and planning. Using SW 2010 will be progressively easier over time for everyone as more implementation/training materials come online and more customizations are in place.  The focus will be on getting the written guides in this SOAPedia, and then the focus can shift to creating the "official" documentation and the other media types such as  more comprehensive videos.

The release of SW 2010 has ushered in a major advance in functionality for the SOAPware EMR community and takes them far beyond what v4 (and most other products) could offer. Upgrading to this new feature-rich system will necessarily be a different experience from updating a v4 system to the next version of v4. SW 2010 is completely new software, created with much more advanced technologies.

Another reason this is not a simple upgrade is that SW 2010 includes a new and almost limitless storage database. So, migration to SW 2010 involves converting the data from the v4 database to the SW 2010 database format. Combine that data migration with a new user interface, and you have an upgrade far more involved than what you’ve likely experienced in previous SOAPware upgrades.
