Document Design Properties in Document Designer
Design Properties, accessible from the Edit menu, gives you a variety of options for controlling how a report functions in SOAPware. Better yet, these options are specific to the report that you are modifying, so each report can be controlled to an even greater extent.

There are five tabs in Document Design Properties that control various aspects of using reports. They are Printer, Destination, Macros, Additional Reports, and Bold.

    The Printer Tab

The Printer Tab allows you to set how the report will print in SOAPware. The default selection, Use System Default Printer, tells SOAPware to send the report to your computer’s default printer.

Selecting Display Printer Selection Dialog sets SOAPware to display the Printer Selection Dialog, much like other programs on your computer. When you click Print, a box will open that allows you to choose a printer, and change its settings if you wish, before you actually print the report.

The Send To option allows you to select a specific printer for SOAPware to use when printing reports, that isn’t necessarily your computer’s default printer. This is useful if you would like all reports to print to a specific printer in the clinic, but you would like to print other documents from the printer next to your computer.

    The Destination Tab

The Destination Tab gives you the option of saving a copy of printed reports to a chart section of your choosing. If you do not want printed reports to be saved to the patient chart, select the option Do not save a copy of this report when printed.

If you would like all printed reports to be saved to a section of the patient chart, select Save a copy to, and then Click the Choose Button. The Select Chart Section dialog box will open. Choose the section to which you wish the printed reports to save by Clicking on it, and then Click Select. Now, when you print a report, it will also be saved in the section of the patient chart that you have chosen.

    The Macros Tab

There are three options available within the Macros Tab.

Enabling the first, Print Selected Handouts, means that when you print the report, any handouts selected in the SOAP Note will also print. This is handy when generating patient documentation.

The second, Auto Store Current Encounter Fields to Corresponding Summary Fields if they are Empty (Assessment, Medication, and Objective), will set SOAPware to transfer information from the currently active Encounter to the Summary side of the patient chart when printing, if it corresponds to an empty Summary field.

The third option available, Append Document Items for All Referenced Documents, allows you to have, for example, a report that prints the Subjective field, but also prints any items, such as images, that are attached to the Encounter.

    The Additional Reports Tab

In this tab, you can select other documents to be printed when you print the document that you are modifying. For example, if you wanted a Simple SOAP Note to print when you printed a Referral Letter, you would open the Referral Letter in the Document Designer, open the Document Design Properties, and Click to select SOAP- Simple Note. You would then save your changes to the Referral Letter.

Now, when you print a Referral Letter, a Simple SOAP Note will also print.

You can select multiple additional reports by holding the Ctrl key while Clicking.

    The Bold Tab

You can set a report to automatically apply bold formatting to specific words of your choosing.

To specify the words to be bolded in your report, enter them in the text box, separated by commas.
