The ability to track immunizations has been enhanced. It is located within the Health Maintenance section.
This enhancement meets specific needs.
Anybody wanting to track immunizations including the ability to note the vaccine manufacturer, lot #, etc.
To take advantage of this, either create a new vaccine rule or modify an existing rule, and change its type to Vaccine. Click Tools in the menu bar, and click on the Health Maintenance Rules and Sets menu item. In the Rules Tab, Click the Add Rule button (surrounded by red box in the screenshot below).
Now specify the information in the Create Rule dialog. (Verify Vaccine is selected in Type)
Fill out the Frequency either by interval or at Ages by Clicking on the Add button. It is possible to add as many ages as needed, such as the age intervals for a Dtap or IPV.
Now that a rule is created, it can be inserted into the Health Maintenance section in patient charts. To do so, Click the Add Rule button (surrounded by red box in screenshot below).
In the item list presented, Click the list item for the vaccine rule.
In the Vaccine dialog, Enter information for the vaccine.
The Vaccine tab is unavailable if the rule type is not a vaccine.

Vaccine records is a weak point in v4 and I am sure v5 can do a very good job of tracking vaccines. I am giving the gist of what I feel is the work flow for vaccines.
Soon as vaccines are received from state or private order, the office person enters the following data:
Name of the vaccine, name of the manufacturing company, Batch number, expiry date.
(Entry of vaccine data is usually done by trained or semi trained girl.)
An inventory also includes the numbers of doses of vaccines received.
At the end of each calendar month left over quantities of vaccine doses are to be checked to send the necessary forms to the State.
Each vaccine can be a single vaccine or combination of two or more vaccines.
Eg: Pediarix is a combination of hepatitisB, IPV, Dtap.
This info (table) is to be linked to actual doses given for each individual child.
Then the given vaccines can be checked with schedule and info about what is due for that child is to be suggested by v5.
The ability to have default rule sets for chronic disease management are also to follow. That is, if a structured Dx for Diabetes is entered into Summary, Active Problems, a default rule set can be automatically added to the chart, etc.We had hoped it would be in the initial 5.2 release, but that is appearing less likely a the moment.
