At least one prescription does not have a dose or form specified
Many of the Structured Rx (Prescription) items created before November, 2008 are not in a format that will transmit, electronically, even though they appear to be fine when displayed in SOAPware or printed.
In order for an Rx to be sent electronically it must have a structured strength and form. If the strength or form is typed into the comments section of strength or form, it is not in a structured format.
A SOAPware release in late 2008 moved separated Strength and Form into a single, combined item.
Structured Rx items downloaded or received prior to November, 2008 may trigger this message. In November, 2008, the Structured Rx items in the SOAPware online library with separated Strength and Form (internally) were replaced with items haveing a single, combined format for Strength/Form.
ing on the Strength header will display a list of valid coded strength items - select one of these in order to retrieve the required structure. When you change the Strength or any element of an Rx within the patients chart, the change only impacts that instance of it only in that patient's chart. In order to fix these items for future use, edit them within SMARText Items Manager.
To do this, you can right click on the inserted med and go to Manage SMARText Items, Edit SMARText Items. Right click on the med in the SMARText Designer, and choose Download Item Update(s). If you have a preferred default Strength, then click on Strength as well and choose a new, valid Strength. Then click Save. If nothing is selected in Strength, then just click Save. This will update the item in your local database. If you have inserted the med already into a patients chart, you will need to right click on the med in the SOAP Note as well and choose Download Item Update(s) or just re-insert the Rx into that chart.
Performing an update of SMARText items, now, should fix most of these, SOAPware 2010 is being designed to fix most of the rest, as it contains a more intelligent SMARText updater. To update and fix most of the meds, go to Docutainers, SMARText Items. Click on the Update Local Items button.
The updater will not fix any that have been customized (i.e. yellow triangles in front of them in the SMARText Manager) or any that are already in patient charts (e.g. in the Summary). They will need to be manually updated by ing on the Strength header and selecting a valid, listed strength.
The next SOAPware update will include a mechanism, in the SMARText manager to list the Structured Rx items needing to be edited.
For items that do not have any strengths, it is recommended that you retrieve an official Rx item (one listed with a Green Triangle) from the online library and use it. Again, SOAPware 2010 is being designed to fix most of the rest, as it contains a more intelligent SMARText updater.
The managing of this issue has been complex and awkward. We are implementing measures to make this type of inconvenience less likely in the future.
For clarification, it is not only ST that is missing data necessary for eRX that will be rejected. in 2008.0.520 items that have previously been transmitted successfully (eg in 2008.0.458) may trigger errors.
The text under Resolution "Performing an update of SMARText items, now, should fix most of these," is confusing. As reported to support on multiple occasions, Update Local Items (on multiple tries in .458 and .520) failed to fix any of the unedited Rx ST in my database. My edited Rx ST appeared to be fixed, but would not work in .520, and would not work if I attempt to change the strength.
