Electronic Prescribing or eRx "Quick Start" option

Q: Is there a good way to download a large block of common meds (structured format).

A:  It is wise in this case to remember to type part of the name of the medication and then press Shift +F11 to include the on-line library (not just spacebar or F11). In order to pre-download some pre-built prescriptions (so F11 will retrieve), go to the online library and download those you use.

To download most of the Structured Rx items (i.e. prebuilt prescriptions) used with electronic prescribing, do a search using r--(r and 2 dashes). However this large list could take 10 to 30 minutes for all items to download.

-     -To do this, open the SMARText Manager (i.e. F10);
-     -Click on the List by Type tab; In the selection field, Click on the down arrow and go to Structured items… Medication Item.

-     -Answer Yes to the dialog and expect this to take several minutes to download (probably 10-20 minutes).
-     -Sort the list by clicking on Description so that the items that start with the dash and five spaces are at the top of the list.
-     -Holding down the Control-Key, one can click on each prescription one uses and then click on the blue, down arrow to bring them into your local database. Alternatively, one can downoad a large block of items by clicking on the first item, then  click on the last item while  pressing the shift key. This selects the whole block.

-     -Now, those prescriptions that are in your local database will have little triangles in front of them that point up instead of pointing down.

-      -In order to create prescriptions with different does or frequencies, or quantities, etc,, duplicate the items you downloaded. To duplicate, right-click over the prescription item and select Duplicate.
-     -Then you can right-click on the duplicated
item, select Edit and change the sub-items to meet your preferences.
-     -In order to be able to use only the spacebar to enter a pre-built Rx. Assign  a shortcut to the prescription that will be easy to remember. To be able to use that prescription for eRx, all one needs to do is enter that shortcut. What method of prescribing/documenting prescriptions (often hundreds to thousands of events for a prescription that is created once) can be more efficient than this?
